Wrong about the first impression

In some point of our lives, we all get to know someone we can call our best friend. I didn’t know that I found one until last year, 2010. I remember my best girl friend Estrellita, who I’ve known for almost 12 years, invited me to the movie theatre at Pradera Concepcion. Estrellita was going with some of her friends from church, so I didn’t want to feel awkward with them so I invited Monica to come. When I arrived with Monica, I call Estrellita and told her to meet me at the entrance of the movie theatre. Finally we met and she was with a bunch of her friends but I noticed someone in particular because was alone feeling awkward with all of them. Estrellita then introduced me to her friends and also to this guy who I noticed before. I couldn’t help it thinking how ridiculous this guy was. Monica and I shared the same thoughts about this guy. We thought him being ridiculous, dumb, extremely cocky, not attractive at all, and weird.

I never think this way about people, but something made me gossip really bad about Brandon. I even felt bad later on for thinking that way because I’m not that kind of girl. I hate to gossip and say bad things about people because I know I’m not superior to anyone else. But still, I did. Brandon was not alone. He came along with a boy who was blond and kind of hot. So Monica and I were comparing both Brandon and his friend. They were opposites. One was blond and the other one brunette.  We kept on making fun of Brandon without him noticing. I felt so much worse when I told Estrellita what kind of friend she had and I meant Brandon. She told me that he was really nice at her and they just started the friendship. I really couldn’t recognize myself after I realize I was being a monster.

At that moment the last thing I would’ve think about Brandon was him becoming my best friend. I never thought I was going to be hanging out with Brandon more than once. I thought that that was going to be the last time to see him, but I was wrong. Estrellita and Brandon became closer friends and because I was Estrellita’s best friends it was pretty obvious I was going to be friends with Brandon too. After a while Brandon and I became closer friends because I knew Brandon had a crush on Estrellita and he confessed to me later on. He was suppose to like me because I was Estrellita’s best friend, so that definitely gave him more chances to date Estrellita. We would call each other and talk for a long period of time. My longest call is with him. We talked on the phone for four hours. Then I knew we were creating something really special. I never developed a crush on him though.

Is amazing to say that Estrellita and Brandon dated for almost ten months. I was afraid that after they have broken up, Brandon and I wouldn’t be friends anymore, but I was wrong again. After they stopped dating, Brandon and I kept on hanging out and doing things together. I love him very much. I consider him my brother. Brandon always gives me good advices and knows how to make me feel better whenever I’m down. A good thing about our friendship is that we shared the same circle of friends, so we constantly hang out together. Now that I have a boyfriends and he has a girlfriend we will do double or triple dates. I know Brandon’s weaknesses and virtues and he knows mine. Is the best relationship I have ever had. First of all because out of bad thoughts something amazing resulted.  I learned that first impressions are not permanent. We can change our minds about the world at any time. We should not judge a book by its cover without discovering what is written in it. He is amazing, funny, good listener, good boyfriend, a gentleman and still cocky tough, but that doesn’t matter anymore. I love him just the way he is. He impressed me in a bad way but showed me he is the other way around.

Brotherhood Battle

Kathy biggest dream of all has been vanished. She thinks there is no hope left. Of all her problems this one is what affects her the most every single day. Kathy’s oldest brother, Fernando is her biggest problem. Fernando has defeated her more than a thousand times and that’s for sure. There have been a lot of situations into this situation. The deal is that they fight everyday and now that Kathy is 17, she thinks there is nothing left to do than to keep on fighting. Kathy has always wanted to stop fighting with Fernando because he is her oldest brother. He is supposed to take care of her little sister, support her and show her love. But apparently Fernando doesn’t want to be kind to her. Kathy loves him with all her heart even though she says she hates him. Kathy wants to fix this problem before they both get older and stop talking to each other and just take separate ways forever and never get in touch again. That’s her biggest fear. There are a lot of situations to talk about. There have been too many fights that every single one is the worst.

Kathy and Fernando grew together. They don’t have any cousins of their same age to share moments with, so that’s even worse for Kathy because she wants to share moments with Fernando. When they were little kids they used to have those brother and sister fights. And they used to fight a lot. Then they would fight less and Kathy can remember that so clear. Everything was too good to be true. All fights started all over again. Is not that they stopped fighting for a period of time is just that they fought less. About three years ago, Kathy and Fernando have been fighting in the worst way. When Kathy brings back memories from those fights she gets scare.

 One year ago Kathy and Fernando were fighting over the computer. Kathy has her own laptop and Fernando doesn’t. Their mother, Sabrina, was using the other computer, so there was always someone left without a computer. Fernando was using Kathy’s computer and he was not doing anything productive on it. Kathy had to use her computer for an important homework assignment and she told Fernando to give the computer to her. Fernando refused to it. Kathy was like “you have to give it to me, it’s mine”. Fernando answered “just give ten more minutes”. So the ten minutes hit the alarm. Fernando kept on refusing to give the computer. This is when the real fight began. Kathy pushed him twice, but Fernando is four years older and goes to the gym, so there was no damage on him at all. Kathy got furious. First of all because her mother wouldn’t do anything about it and second of all because she knew she was going to get defeated again. Kathy hit Fernando in the arm and also kicked him on the leg. Fernando got really mad and pushed Kathy against the wall and hit her too. They were hitting each other back and forth until someone got really hurt. Guess who was. Kathy of course.  She was crying and yelling so loud. Her limit had reached the top. Fernando as always didn’t get hurt like she was. She went upstairs to her room and shot the door. She was still crying and didn’t know what to do about that. So Kathy cried until night came. She finally got out of her room and realized that she had a big bruce on her leg and another on her arm. She was so pissed off.

There have been other intensive fights like that one. And also there are more fights to come. At this point Kathy has surrender. She has tried everything possible to stop fighting with Fernando and had come with the conclusion that is all Fernando’s fault. He has never tried to stop fighting with her. He doesn’t care at all. That’s sad. Fernando is her only sibling and the only she will ever want. She thanks God everyday for the friends she has. Kathy considers her best friends more than that, more like her siblings.  The only difference is that they all live in different homes. But they are exactly what she would like Fernando to be. Kathy thinks that without her “siblings” she would be lost and somehow dead. They give her the strength to keep going on and keep on trying to fix things with Fernando. Kathy has told Fernando a lot of things and also her mother has talked to Fernando about that. Fernando won’t listen. Sabrina tells Kathy to ignore her brother whenever he is about to explode; that all she needs to do is walk away instead of fighting too because that’s when everything gets ugly. Fernando and Kathy will always love each other secretly. Besides all fights they love each other and right now that’s all that matters.

The strangest Woman on Earth

About two years ago in Minetrista, Minnesota, Precious met what she considered “The strangest woman on Earth”. This woman, called Genesis, made her winter vacations the best. But why would Precious say that Genesis is the strangest woman on Earth if she made her have an awesome time? Precious is a Latin American Girl from Guatemala, she knew that going to Minnesota and spending three months there, wouldn’t be easy at all. She was now an exchange student who was about to either have a great time or have the worst time of her life.

Precious has travel to the States before, but never without her family. This trip was her gift for turning 15, which is a really important stage of a woman’s life in Latin America just like turning 16 for Americans. She remembers getting into the airplane that 25^th of September Friday morning and saying goodbye to her family. She was so excited about that, but also nervous. At the beginning being nervous wasn’t a big deal because she was traveling with a bunch of other teens that were to have the same experience as her.

After a long flight, Precious finally arrived at the international airport from Minnesota. She went to look for her suitcases and started looking for her family. Precious was told in Guatemala who her host family was, she was aware of having two sisters and two pets. So, she was feeling sad because she wasn’t able to find her family yet, and the thing is that all host families were supposed to carry a chart with the exchange student’s name and Precious saw all kinds of names except hers. After a minute she saw a chart that said a funny name that she can’t remember now, but it was misspelled and that’s why she couldn’t find her family. Genesis was the only one waiting for her. They introduced themselves to each other and got into the car ready to get home.

Genesis got to know her sisters and her dad, but always saw something special in Genesis. Genesis has just turned 50 and was hilarious. She also had a funny haircut which Precious could not resist to laugh in her mind of course; she was an art teacher from an elementary school. Precious believed that the fact of Genesis being an art teacher had to do something with the fact that she was weird. Precious had a great relationship with her sisters and new friends from Holy Family Catholic High school, but her relationship with Genesis was the coolest. Genesis would be the only one to take her to the movies, or shopping, or took her to the groceries with her, or just make conversations with her.

Genesis made those three months the best. Precious felt so comfortable around her, even though Genesis always had weird thoughts and jokes that Precious could not understand, but that was just part of being Genesis. Now two years after that trip, Genesis is the only one of the Nords family that will make an effort to keep in touch with Precious. They would chat on facebook or send e-mails to each other. Precious wants to have the opportunity to meet with Genesis someday soon. Precious could see that Genesis personality came from another great woman, Buzzy. Buzzy is Genesis’ mom. Precious met her on thanksgiving holiday. The Nords family drove from Minnesota to Missouri, and there’s when they met.

One time Precious felt homesick and she didn’t know what to do. All she was thinking about was flying back to Guatemala. She needed a hug and someone who understand her. That day Precious couldn’t handle her cry anymore, so she went to Genesis and told her about how she felt.  Genesis handled the situation very well that made Precious happy and calm. That was on the second week of Precious trip and that’s she realized that she found a comfort on Minnesota. Since that day their relationship grew. Every time that Precious felt weird she would go to Genesis just to feel good.

Now Precious’ biggest dream is to meet with the Nords family again, but most of all meet with Genesis. Genesis made her quinceañera present worth it.
